All Tie-Dyed Up!

Today was a perfect day for an inside project as it's grey, gloomy, and wet out.  As I've said before, I have so many ideas so it was hard for me to choose, but we decided to make tie-dyed t-shirts.  We didn't do traditional tie-dye though.  These are the supplies that you need for this easy project: t-shirts, Sharpie markers, alcohol (I used 70% - and it worked just fine.), eye droppers, plastic cups, and rubberbands.

Place the plastic cup inside the shirt, and put the rubberband around the top to hold it in place.

Then create designs in your circle.  I suggest that you do a practice shirt first experimenting with different techniques with the markers.  The more circles we did, the better our designs became.  Also, watch which colors you choose, and think about how the colors mix.  Jennah used quite a few colors and lots of purple, and they tended to turn brown.

After you've got a design, then fill a dropper with rubbing alcohol and start dripping from the center of your design.  It's fun watching the colors spread, mix, and turn into different designs.  The kids had a lot of fun doing this.

After each circle, we dried it with a hair dryer to speed up the drying process.  Then, after we dried it, we did another circle.  You can overlap the circles, and do whatever design you want.  It just depends on how much time you want to dedicate to the shirt.  Check out our finished products!

This is the one that I did. . .and I'll keep
practicing on this one before we do
this project again!
You could add some bling to these shirts to make them even better!  OR - you could do red and blue circles for Fourth of July!  We might just do that!!  I hope you get a chance to try this.  It was SO much fun and easy!
